On “grooming gangs”

Recently social media has been full of the horrors of the “grooming gangs” in Rotherham, Rochdale, Oxford, Telford and elsewhere; how this phenomenon was exclusively – or mainly – gangs of Pakistani men raping white working-class girls; and how the police and other authorities colluded to ignore the plight of the girls and give impunity to the men involved.

This view has been promoted by several high-profile men who have also promoted Andew Tate – who is on trial in Romania for similar behaviour to other girls and young women, and who has profited from encouraging other young men to imitate this. Quite how those high-profile men marry that up in their minds is anyone’s guess. But it does expose the ignorance about what the actual problem is and the size of it.

While we do not want to underplay in any way the appalling abuse and torture that the girls in these cases suffered or the abject dereliction of duty and corruption of the police and other authorities, we think it is a serious mistake to consider that these are isolated incidents that are the sole responsibility of Pakistani men and that the only reason the police and authorities didn’t pursue and stop them is that they were Pakistani and the girls were white – as if they would have been on top of it had the perpetrators been white British men. The Muslim Women’s Network did an excellent study that shows that many victims of the “grooming gangs” were themselves of Indian and Pakistani heritage.

There is a vast body of evidence suggesting that another reason for this dereliction of duty was because the perpetrators were male and the victims mainly female. Men’s crimes against women and girls are very seldom dealt with appropriately. For example, in 2021-2022, of the 70,330 rapes reported to police only 1,378 led to a conviction – that is a conviction rate of less than 2%. At least some of the perpetrators in the “grooming gangs” cases have been brought to justice.

Our own research has shown that prostitution is now more or less decriminalised in England and Wales, as pimping, brothel keeping, kerb crawling, and even pimping or paying for sex with a child are almost never prosecuted.

And let us be clear, the whole terminology – whether it is ‘grooming gangs’, ‘rape gangs’ or ‘child sexual exploitation’ – obfuscates what is really happening. This is about the prostitution of minors – men selling girls (and sometimes boys) to other men to rape and sexually torture for cash – sex trafficking under international law (regardless of whether they are transported from place to place or not). In the Oxford case, girls were sold to men for up to £600 an hour.

And there is the rub, men sell girls to other men of all ethnicities and descriptions. Men drive this whole phenomenon, and white men are just as happy to rape and torture women and children as men of other ethnicities – possibly more so. Think of Jimmy Savile, Rolf Harris, Gary Glitter, Jeffrey Epstein, and the multitude of white men on the Epstein flight lists who have never been held to account.

Think of OnlyFans, which facilitates – and profits from – the packaging of young women as objects for men’s paid consumption, and which therefore normalises men of all ethnicities paying to sexually use and abuse women and children. OnlyFans is registered in the UK. Its net revenue for 2023 was up by 20% on 2022 to $1.31 billion, while the company’s pre-tax profit jumped 25% to $658 million. And it is welcomed by the British government.

Think of Boris Johnson who cancelled the excellent legislation that would have introduced robust age verification on all porn in the UK in 2019 (five years ago) – because he thought it might upset the men.

And think of what that porn is that we are still allowing children to view. Suzzan Blac (who was herself tortured in porn and prostitution as a child by white men in much the same way that the Rotherham girls were tortured) investigated PornHub because she wanted to understand the kind of porn that kids can see freely after only one or two clicks. This is what she said:

“I could not believe what I was seeing, I thought that these things could only be seen on the dark web. I watched women being sexually and violently abused, humiliated, degraded, raped and tortured. These were not sex videos. They were crime-scene videos.”

This is what our children are growing up on, and many men, perhaps most men under 40, are wanking off to on a regular basis. Films of men raping, sodomising, strangling, beating and otherwise torturing women. And yet the British establishment is so comfortable with this that they have yet to implement effective controls to stop children seeing it.[*] Who owns, runs and enables the porn industry? Mostly white men.

Is it any wonder then that men of all ethnicities are paying to rape and torture women and girls?

This problem is deeply rooted in Britain. It is an institutionalised British problem. Sexploitation is a vast rapacious industry that the British government is extremely happy to allow to base itself here.

Not only OnlyFans, as we mentioned already, but the big pimping websites: AdultWork, Vivastreet and Escort Ireland are all allowed to operate as legitimate businesses here. These companies, which facilitate and profit from abuse not dissimilar to that meted out to girls in Rotherham, are welcomed by the Treasury because they increase GDP and tax revenues.

They are even welcomed as “partners” in “the fight against crime” by the National Crime Agency (NCA)  – the national police body tasked with tackling organised crime, including sex trafficking.

The British government even part owns Killing Kittens, a company that hosts “sex parties” – which might be more accurately described as pop-up brothels.

So why are we surprised that the British establishment is unable to protect girls and women from men’s sexual violence and torture, paid for or otherwise?

Guys, it is beyond time you opened your eyes and joined up the dots to see the terrifying big picture. Nothing is likely to change for our most marginalised girls and young women while the entire British establishment is condoning, monetising, and facilitating the kind of behaviour for which significant numbers of Pakistani men were eventually convicted. If they had been white-collar white British men, the chances are they would have been welcomed in the House of Lords.

Prostitution and all the related practices – porn, webcamming, OnlyFans, ‘sugar dating’, lap dancing, stripping etc – are facilitating, normalising, legitimising and monetising the rape and torture of women and children all over the country. By men of all ethnicities.

That is why we are calling for the Nordic Model.

[*] Some age verification controls are due to be implemented on online porn through the Online Safety Act later this year, but we are dubious that these will be even half as effective as the excellent legislation Boris Johnson cancelled and that would otherwise have been in force for the last five years.

  1. The Andrew Tate apologists marry up applauding Tate’s behaviour towards women and criticising the grooming gangs because white women are their (white men’s) territory. Pakistani men should not abuse *white men’s* women, that’s their job.

Women are a resource for men. If the system were working well they would all get at least one to use as they please. Taking women marked out as another man’s, by race or law or custom or just by use, is against the patriarchal code. Its that simple.
